When Bethenny Frankel and her husband, Jason Hoppy, announced their plans to divorce, they were confident they would remain friends, if only to ensure the happiness and security of their 2-year-old daughter Bryn. That was just after New Years. Just a few weeks later, that plan is beginning to fray around the edges.
Frankel, who gained fame as one of the "Real Housewives of New York City," and Hoppy wed in 2010. The couple separated in December.
Entertainment news outlets reported that Frankel's divorce petition asked for primary custody of Bryn and the couple's Tribeca apartment. She also requested spousal support and asked to remain on Hoppy's insurance plan.
In his response to the petition, Hoppy has apparently asked for the same things: custody, the apartment and insurance. He may, in fact, have the upper hand when it comes to their $5 million home: Frankel moved out, leaving Hoppy in sole possession of the premises.
One thing the couple may agree on is life insurance. Each parent has a policy naming the other and their daughter as beneficiaries, and both would like that not to change.
The most recent development is Hoppy's refusal to allow Bryn to travel with Frankel on a business trip out of the country. Coincidentally, according to one news source, Frankel asked for sole custody in order to take Bryn with her on trips like this without having to negotiate with Hoppy first.
In New York, divorce papers are not public. What's filed with the court stays with the court and the parties. So, for the moment, any struggle between the two is coming from unnamed sources. As with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, these celebrities will share the details when they are ready.
